I grew up in Guelph: Victory Public School, Willow Road SPS, and GCVI. I am a proud graduate of the environmental design program at OCAD University (the Ontario College of Art). I worked in Toronto for a number of years in communications, including seven years at the University of Toronto, where I was responsible for the promotion of over $1 billion in capital projects, a tri-campus expansion that at the time was the largest construction undertaking in Canada.
As a communications professional, I have worked for the University of Guelph and been a consultant to the Hospital for Sick Children, the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario, the Canadian Landmine Foundation, and National Search and Rescue.
I have trained as a 911 operator and am certified in incident command for emergency response, having trained with or been trained by the OPP, Peel Regional Police, York Regional Police, Fire and EMS, City of Toronto Police, Fire and EMS and U of T campus police.
I have lived in Ward 2 since I returned to Guelph eight years ago. We may have met as I walk daily (with or without a dog) through our parks, or shopping downtown or in the retail establishments across the Ward. We may also have met over the past year or so at community safety meetings.
In 2016 I was part of the census team for Statistics Canada, and much of my work happened to be throughout Ward 2. I gained a unique insight into our demographics: the range of ages, incomes, housing and life circumstances.
I have served as a returning officer in two elections. I believe in democracy and the absolute importance of the vote. I also believe that elected officials and those who are paid by the public purse are absolutely responsible to the people who entrust them with the stewardship of their interests.
As your councillor, I will represent your interests, seek answers, and focus on accountability from City Hall and the quality of life in Ward 2 and across Guelph.
A healthy democracy depends heavily on robust debate, with different points of view freely expressed.
Please do not hesitate to contact me. I am interested in your thoughts and concerns.
